– San Luis Obispo County District Attorney Dan Dow announced that felony charges have been filed against Cal Poly student resident advisor Alexis Alejandro for residential burglary and felony assault with the intent to commit a sexual offense on Sept. 7.
Alejandro, 25, has been charged with assault to commit a felony during the commission of a first-degree residential burglary, assault with intent to commit rape, sodomy, or oral copulation, and first-degree residential burglary while a person was present. These charges are classified as “strike” offenses under California’s Three Strikes Law.
The crimes reportedly occurred on the Cal Poly campus in San Luis Obispo during the early morning hours of Sept. 7. Alejandro was arrested, and bail was set at $200,000.
A preliminary hearing, where evidence will be presented to a judge, is scheduled for Oct. 9 at 8:30 a.m. in Department 5 of the San Luis Obispo County Superior Court, with Judge Timothy S. Covello presiding.
The District Attorney’s Office emphasized that criminal charges are allegations, and individuals charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
This case is being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Kristin Barnard from the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Prosecution Unit. The Cal Poly Police Department, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office, and the District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation are investigating.
